What is on the other side of the sea? For those who went across the ocean to other countries, the sea separates them from home and their past. It becomes an embodiment of nostalgia, memories and history. Inspired by the port-city culture of the Chaoshan area, Over the Sea invites the viewer to stand in the middle of the ocean as her own silhouette reveals an Overseas Chinese author’s recollections of his hometown. Here, the ocean is a mirror and a witness of time. It reflects not only the viewer, but also the collective memories of the Chaoshan people.
