How I made my first flashlight

Inspiration

I found an easy-to-follow instruction video on YouTube: How To Make A Flashlight

Materials and Tools

2 AA batteries, duck tape, scissors, small LED light, wires, card stock paper

Process

Following the detailed instruction video, it was a relatively smooth process to make a simple, workable flashlight. Even though I can’t really boast about the craftsmanship. it does feel quite rewarding to make something functional with my own hands.

Where to improve

In the instruction video, the positive end of the wire connected to the light is left out as a switch to turn the flashlight on and off. I do not like the bare wire left outside, so I taped it all up.

Because there is a little room in between when I taped the two batteries together, I still end up having a switch in my flashlight. When I press the rear end of the light, it lights up. This is sort of a happy accident, I didn’t plan for it to work. If done a second time, I would like to explore other ways to make a better switch.

    Nice work and documentation.

How did it look with the paper as a cover?

Did you end up soldering the wire or did you wrap them?

I wrapped the paper with black duck tape. Didn’t solder the wire, just covered it with paper and tape. The last image is how it looks.
